North Carolina Tar Heels defeated Hawaii 87-69 on Friday. UNC improves to 4-1.
RJ Davis looked more comfortable and connected in this game’s flow than in the first three games. He led the team in scoring with 18 points.
Coach Hubert Davis is pleased with how the team played defense, especially his guards.
“We got good guards that can compete on both ends of the floor,” Davis said. “I thought they did a really good job defensively against bigger guards.”
Elliot Cadeau added 17 points. In the first half, he was sitting on the bench for so long, which frustrated him.
“I don’t like sitting helplessly on the bench like I can’t do anything. I don’t really like that,” Cadeau said. “So it was hard for me; that was the first time I had done it this year.”
The Tar Heels outscored Hawaii 19 to 1 in transition m. It’s an incredible performance.
Through four games, the Tar Heels have outscored their opponents 77 to 21 in fastbreak points. UNC’s quickness, speed, and athleticism are causing problems for other teams, which is a great sign.
RJ Davis explained how the trio’s backcourt works so well on the court.
“During the off-season, we did like a lot of competition,” Davis said. “Coach would split the guards up just so we can compete, and I think iron sharpens iron, so we were able to get after it, but as the season started to pick up a bit. It’s been working really well for us.”
One of the highlights is the Tar Heels’ rebound game. Hawaii outrebounded UNC.
UNC did a much better job rebounding the ball against Kansas and American, but it was less impressive against Hawaii. Hawaii won the rebound game 40-27.
Tar Heel’s next game will be against Dayton on Monday at 11:30pm.
