Denny Hamlin wins the Cook Out 400 NASCAR Cup Series on Sunday.
Hamlin entered the race with four Top 5 finishes in the last five Martinsville races. He has led 2,500 laps at Martinsville – the most among active drivers.
Joey Logano won Stage One. He was racing well until he got spinned out by Chase Briscoe. It ruined his momentum, but Logano deserves credit for rallying back and finishing in 8th place.
Hamlin won Stage Two and was in command for the rest of the race. Hamlin and his teammate Christopher Bell were battling near the end of the race, but Hamlin slowly pulled away and finally earned his first win.
It’s been ten years since Hamlin hasn’t been to the victory lane at Martinsville. How did Hamlin manage to come back after all these years? What were some adjustments?
“Chris Gale, all the engineers, the P crew,” Hamlin said after the race. “Everybody on that wall right there just deciding that they would come here with a different approach than what we’ve been over the last few years, and it was just amazing. The car was was great.”
Hamlin shared the victory with his family, especially his daughter, who stood beside him.
