Cincinnati Reds falls to the San Francisco Giants 6-3 and loses the weekend series opener.
The Reds’ defense wasn’t impressive compared to their performance on Saturday. There were missed tags, and their infield didn’t show up. Errors and missed opportunities can change the outcome of the game.
The Giants took advantage of the Reds’ lackluster defense and scored easy runs. It was a scoreless game until the top of the fifth inning when Heliot Ramos hit a solo home run to left field off Nick Martinez to put the Giants on the board.
Giants would score three more runs in the sixth inning. Third baseman Matt Chapman hit a 2-run home run.
Wynns put the Reds on the board with a 2-run home run in the bottom of the left field to cut the deficit to 4-2 off Robbie Ray. Matt McLain joined the party by hitting a solo home run. It’s his second home run of the season.
The Giants scored an RBI from Willy Adames and Ramos in the top of the eighth inning to make the game 6-3.
It’s only the beginning of the season. The Reds have a long way to go, and we will see how they perform for the rest of the season. There is no need to hit the panic meter early. The silver lining is that the Reds showed some fight in the sixth inning. The team doesn’t quit easily.
Reds will host against the Texas Rangers on Monday at 6:40 pm. Brady Singer will take the mound for the Reds.
