The Tampa Bay Rays defeated the Colorado Rockies 6-4 and grabbed the weekend series by winning two out of three at George M. Steinbrenner Field.
Yandy Diaz started the game with a double. Brandon Lowe put the Rays on the boards with a 2-run home run to deep right-center field.
Jose Caballero made an incredible defensive play at third base in the top of the 3rd inning.
In the sixth inning, the Rays scored three runs. Junior Caminero got an RBI single. Caballero followed with a 2-run single to bring Caminero and Taylor Walls home.
The Rockies got a little close after Mickey Moniak connected a two-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to cut it to 6-4. But that’s the most the Rockies will get to. The Rays bullpen sealed the deal. Pete Fairbanks earned the save.
Rays starter Taj Bradley got the win. Through six innings of work, Bradley struck out seven Rockies hitters and allowed two earned runs and zero walks.
Rays improve to 2-1 and will host against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Monday at 7:05.
