Actor Val Kilmer, best known for movies such as Top Gun, Heat, Batman Forever, and many more, has passed away at the age of 65.
Kilmer battled pneumonia for quite some time. Kilmer was dishonored with throat cancer in 2015, which ended his acting career.
His documentary, Val, was released on Amazon Prime Video in 2021. The film chronicles his career as an actor and his daily battle with health problems. It is a profound and heartfelt documentary.
Kilmer was one of the best-paid actors in the 1990s. One of his best works of that decade was the Western film Tombstone. The film is considered one of the best Westerns of all time and certainly a classic of that decade.
Kilmer portrays the role of Doc Holliday. Kilmer is known for his memorable lines in that movie, such as “I’m your huckleberry” and “You’re no daisy! You’re no daisy at all. Poor soul, you were just too high-strung.”
“Batman Forever” is one of those movies in Kilmer’s catalog that he wishes he had never made or that it could’ve been better. The movie had a solid cast, with Kilmer playing Batman, Nicole Kidman, Jim Carrey, and Tommy Lee Jones. It had a very talented cast but a lackluster script and direction.
Regardless of the movie’s outcome in terms of box office and review, it’s a movie to watch, especially on a somber day like today, to honor Kilmer.
Kilmer’s last cameo appearance was on Top Gun: Maverick, which was released in 2022. He reprised his role as Tom “Iceman” Kazansky for the sequel. Top Gun: Maverick is the second highest-grossing film of 2022, earning $1.496 billion worldwide.
Other films that Kilmer was part of that maybe doesn’t get too much attention are Top Secret (1984), The Prince of Egypt (1998), which he voiced for Moses, and At First Sight (1999), which is one of the most challenging roles Kilmer had to portray in his career.
