Carlos Alcaraz defeated Jannik Sinner 7-6, 6-1 to conquer the Italian Open Championship.

Alcaraz snaps Sinner’s 26-match win streak & is the first player to beat him since October. At 22, he became the 5th man to win three clay court Masters 1000 titles. He’s won seven Masters titles, 19th title overall, and 15-1 on clay in 2025.

Alcaraz has won every big clay title throughout his career so far.

Sinner made an impressive comeback after being away from Tennis for three months, which was tough on him, his family, and his team. In his first event back, he reached a Masters 1000 final.

Sinner defeated the Nos. 18, 7, and 12. He was dominated throughout the Italian Open tournament until he lost to Alcaraz.

During his finalist speech, Sinner showed respect and appreciation for everyone, especially his rival Alcaraz.

“I’d like to thank my team,” Sinner said. “There have been a few months that weren’t easy. It’s been a great result just to be here in the final. We trained a lot. We can be proud of the results we achieved. We didn’t win the final but are happy with this trophy. It’s been a great success since we came here. Paolini won singles and doubles with Errani. Lorenzo and I did our part on the men’s side. Italians, we hope you’re happy with this tournament. A lot of friends of mine are here. My brother couldn’t be here. He’s watching the racing (Formula 1) . Thanks to all the people who came to this tournament. You gave me a lot of energy and encouragement. I tried today, but that’s all I had. It was a good test. Thanks to everyone.”

Alcaraz needed someone to push him to another level as a Tennis player. He needed Sinner to elevate his game and be consistent like Sinner. Alcaraz silenced many haters after he beat the world’s No. 1 men’s tennis player.

Alcaraz has had a year of trials and tribulations, but he scored the biggest win.

“I’m proud of myself and how I approached the game and the match,” Alcaraz said. “Mentally, in terms of hitting shots, tactically, I think I did pretty well. I didn’t do a rollercoaster. I maintained my good level the whole match. So I’m proud of everything overdone today.”

Alcaraz was very proud to win this title. He was so excited that he even popped the champagne to celebrate.

Roland Garros in Paris is the next big test for Alcaraz.
