Argentine forward Lionel Messi led the Inter Miami CF to a 2-1 victory against Nashville FC after scoring two goals on Saturday night.
The 38-year-old Messi also led the team in minutes. He played 90 minutes. Forward Luis Suarez played for 83 minutes. Suarez hasn’t scored a goal for Miami CF since May 31 against the Columbus Crew.
Inter Miami CF made 94 percent of their passes accurate. They controlled 53 percent of their possession. Miami committed just two offside compared to Nashville, which had four offside calls. Both Miami and Nashville had two yellow cards each.
Messi continues to put this team on his back. It’s the sixth consecutive game in which he scored two goals. Messi currently has 16 goals and 7 assists this season. In addition, Messi scored his 69th goal from a direct free kick.
Inter Miami FC (11-3-5) will face FC Cincinnati (13-6-3) at home on Wednesday, July 16 at 7:30 ET.
Miami has three games left before the FIFA Club World Cup. The team is looking to finish the season on a high note. When Messi is on a rampage, it’s rare for Miami to lose. Messi is one of the best to do it.
