Sportscaster Rich Eisen returned to ESPN to host SportsCenter for the first time since 2003.

Eisen got emotional remembering his former colleague Stuart Scott when ESPN showed a variety of clips of them together having a good time on and off the set.

“We all know there should be someone else right here in this chair next to me,” Eisen said. “My seven years in the role he referred to as my TV wife. And that’s my dear late Stuart Scott, who is indeed looking over my shoulder tonight. I frequently think of Stuart a lot and what he might think of the sports headlines of the day, like say Bill Belichick being the head football coach at his beloved school.”

Scott attended and graduated from the University of North Carolina in 1987. Scott represented the Tar Heels to the heart.

“We used to host sports centers after LeBron’s high school games. So what would Stuart think of James still playing at the age of 40 with 40,000 points? And with all these new crossings of sports TV streams, like say ESPN buying NFL Network and partnering up with my daily show. What would it look like if Stuart sat in with Ernie, Shaq, Kenny, and Charles when ‘Inside the NBA’ comes here to ESPN this Fall? I miss Stuart so very much.”

Scott passed away on January 4, 2015, at the age of 49, after a seven-year battle with cancer. He had two daughters. ESPN hasn’t been the same since Scott’s passing, and there will never be another Stuart Scott. He changed the way you communicate in Journalism, especially in Sports television journalism.
