UNC Tar Heels fall to ACC opponent SMU Mustangs 97-83 at Moody Coliseum in Dallas. Texas. It’s the second loss of the season for the Tar Heels.
Carolina’s performance in the second half was disappointing. Carolina had no answer for the Mustags’ guards in this game. SMU had a great night shooting the ball.
Seth Trimble led the Tar Heels with 22 points, on 8-for-16 shooting, and went 3 of 7 from the free-throw line. Jarid Stevenson added 16 points in 21 minutes.
“We weren’t the most physical,” Trimble said. “We weren’t the most physical as we should have been. They generated a lot of open looks. They had us scrambling. They shot the ball extremely well tonight.”
SMU was aggressive and kept on attacking from the perimeter. The Mustags made the right plays and adjustments. SMU came into this game second in the ACC conference in scoring. UNC came in as the best defense in the ACC. Carolina was holding opponents to just 37 percent from the field.
Well, the Mustags had other thoughts and completely outplayed the Tar Heels in the second half. Everyone wearing a Tar Heel uniform noticed this. SMU shot 60 percent from the floor and 51.9 percent from the three-point line.
Kevin Miller led SMU with 27 points on 10 of 13 shooting and went 4 for five from the line. Also, he had 12 assists. Corey Washington added 23 points.
“Every time we touched the paint with the ball with the drives, we had something think that we weren’t ready in the second half to play like that,” Luka Bogavac said after the game.
The Tar Heels are 13-2. SMU is 12-2. Carolina’s next matchup will be against Wake Forest next Saturday at 6 pm in Chapel Hill.
