Jeremy Ballreich is a passionate sports journalist and co-host at South Florida Tribune. He enjoys talking and writing about sports.
Ballreich was born and raised in the Greater Flint, Michigan area. Jeremy never studied writing in college or had any background in writing.
He shared his journey, experiences, and challenging moments, and what fueled him to become a sports journalist.
“I lost my oldest son (RIH) back in February of 2016,” Ballreich said. “He asked me to do something with my knowledge of football. So, when I found that I was able to create interest in my Facebook Group just by writing out my takes on the game. That was in 2020, writing about how I wanted Patricia gone after week one of 2018. I created my own Lions podcast on January 12th, 2022. I have aired 2000+ episodes and have over 100k views lifetime. Due to a guest being on another football show, I commented. The publisher of the South Florida Tribune, Scott Morganroth, ran the show. He gave me a shot as an intern sports journalist.”
Ballreich has been a lifelong Detroit sports fan. He follows teams such as the University of Michigan Wolverines, including Men’s and Women’s Football, Men’s and Women’s Basketball, Hockey, Baseball, and Softball. Detroit sports are his life, and he always represents them.
“My four major Detroit pro sports teams are the Lions, Red Wings, Tigers, Pistons,” Ballreich said. “Some of my favorite semipro teams are the Flint Firebirds OHL, Detroit Shock, and Michigan Panthers.”
Every sports fan, of course, has their favorite players. Jeremy has a ton of athletes that he admires and didn’t miss to mention every single one of them.”
“Billy Sims, Erik Hipple, Herman Moore, Barry Sanders, Chris Spielman, Ndamakong Suh,” Ballreich continues. “DeAndre Levy, Isiah Thomas, Kirk Gibson, Lance Parrish, Jack Morris, Bill Lambeer, Grant Hill, Calvin Johnson Jr., Aiden Richardson, and many more.”
The life of a journalist is not always sunshine and glamour. In this profession, there will be easy and challenging assignments to cover. Just like every journalist on the planet, Jeremy had to cover some challenging assignments in their career.
“The 2024 NFL Draft in Detroit,” Ballreich said. “It took me a couple of hours to open up to so many people I hadn’t met before. Including some of the people I look up to in the media business. For example, my Publisher, Scott Morganroth, and his wife, Candy. A local writer I have followed throughout my life, Jeff Risdon. Took me all night to finally ask a question in the rookie interview room. Got to ask Terrion Arnold (24th pick by the Detroit Lions) what he learned while he was benched.
Jeremy loves using statistics and facts when he’s writing articles. It’s one of the things that makes him get up every day to write.
“I try not to do opinion pieces about teams and fantasy trade situations,” Ballreich said. “I would rather my opinion match my podcaster personality. Straightforward, honest opinions.”
Ballreich loves podcasting. As good as radio is, he prefers podcasting since he’s a podcaster himself. He considered getting into sports broadcasting.
“I think that is the ultimate goal for every person who podcasts, whether on TV or radio.”
