The Detroit Lions signed running back Isiah Pacheco to replace David Montgomery, who was traded last week.

Pacheco fills in a big void in the backfield. It’s a big pickup for the Lions to kick off free agency. Pacheco was a member of the Kansas City Chiefs and won two Super Bowls. The Chiefs selected Pacheco with the 251st pick in the 2022 draft.

The 27-year-old finished the 2025 season with 118 carries, including one rushing touchdown and one receiving touchdown. Pacheco had a total of 462 yards. Pacheco fits well with the Lions. He’s going to elevate his game under Dan Campbell’s leadership.

The Lions are trying to get back into the powerhouse team they were two seasons ago. Lions are coming off a 9-8 season, finishing last in the NFC South. Injuries played a role in their inconsistencies, and they’re looking to Pachero to help them win games and become a force at the running back position. Pachero is in the prime of his career. He’s due for a breakout season.

We understand that he suffered a broken tibia in his right leg in the 2024 season. Pacheco is still working his way back to becoming a valuable player. After a serious injury to a knee, Achilles tendon, or leg in general, it takes a while for an athlete to get back to their old self.

Some people, such as Lions fans, might be skeptical of Pacheco because of how he performed last season. Let’s see what he can do in this upcoming season. The goal for Pacheco is to stay healthy and get adjusted to the system. Pacheco will be in good hands with a new offensive coordinator, Drew Petzing, and the team has invested heavily in upgrading its offensive line.
