Academy Award winner Kate Winslet joins the cast of The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum as the leading lady for the role.

Andy Serkis will serve as the director and actor in the film. Serkis will play as Gollum. Elijah Wood returns to play Frodo Baggins. Ian McKellen will reprise his role as Gandalf. Peter Jackson directed the actors in the first three films of the series. The first one came out in 2001.

The new movie, set to release in 2027, centers on Aragorn’s quest to capture Gollum between The Hobbit and Fellowship of the Ring, tracking him to keep the Ring’s location from Sauron. The film explores Aragorn’s early adventures as a ranger. The production will take place in New Zealand.

J.R.R. Tolkien is the author of The Lord of the Rings. Tolkien wrote it from 1954 through 1955. He’s known for that one and for his work on The Hobbit, published in 1937. Tolkien passed away in 1973 at the age of 81. His body of work is astonishing, and it would have been great if he had seen the films made from his writing.

Winslet is a great addition to the cast. She brings a high level of focus and attention to detail to every role she takes on. Winslet has been an actress for many years. One of the things that makes her great is her willingness to challenge herself as an artist. She’s selective with the roles. In her latest performance in Mare of Easttown, she was outstanding and earned an Emmy for her role. She could return for a second season. We hope she does.
