Actor, film producer and director Denzel Washington plans to retire after a couple of more projects.

In an interview on the Australian version of the TODAY show on Tuesday, Washington indicated that he and Black Panther filmmaker Ryan Coogler have been discussing a collaboration.

“At this point in my career, I’m only interested in working with the best,” Washington said. “I don’t know how many more films I’m going to make, but it’s probably not that many. I want to do things I haven’t done. I played Othello at 22; I’m about to play Othello at 70. After that, I’m playing Hannibal. After that, I’ve been talking with Steve McQueen about a film. After that, Ryan Coogler is writing a part for me in the next Black Panther.”

Marvel has not officially announced a third film in the “Black Panther” franchise, but the franchise hit the jackpot with the addition of Washington to the cast.

Washington is set to perform alongside Jake Gyllenhaal in Shakespeare’s Othello, beginning with previews on Monday, February 24, 2025, for a Sunday, March 23, opening night.

Kenny Leon and Anthony Moreland are attached to the production of Othello. Leon is a Tony Award winner and he’s the director of the play. Meanwhile, Moreland serves as the lead producer.

Washington has won two Oscars, two Golden Globe awards, a Screen Actors Guild, and a Tony award. In addition to that, he’s a Grammy Award nominee.
