RJ Luis Jr. Stars in St John’s Victory Over New Mexico

St John’s Red Storm defeated New Mexico 85-71 Sunday afternoon at Madison Square Garden.

New Mexico suffered their first loss of the season. Five St John’s players had double figures.

RJ Luis Jr. led the Johnnie’s with 21 points, including 11 rebounds, 8 of 18 from the field, seven assists, and one block.

Forward Zuby Ejiofor added 13 points and ten rebounds. Kadary Richmond and Aaron Scott combined for 28 points, 14 rebounds, and six assists. 

Nelly Junior Joseph and Mustapha Amzil led New Mexico in scoring, with both having 16 points each. 

CJ Noland added 15 points off the bench, shot 5 of 12 from the field, and made 2 of his five three-pointers, including four rebounds, four assists, and three steals. 

New Mexico made 44 percent of their three-pointers.

Takeaway:

Richmond committed seven of St John’s 15 turnovers.

The Johnnies struggled from downtown, making 4 of 18. In addition, the free-throw line shooting wasn’t great, either. The Johnnies made 65 percent of their free throws. 

St John’s won the rebound game (45 to 26).

The Red Storm’s next game is against Barlow on Thursday, November 21. They’re trying to improve their 5-0 record for the season.
