Kinda Pregnant is the latest Netflix movie starring Amy Schumer, Will Forte, and Jillian Bell.
The movie is about a woman who is anxious to have a family of her own. She pretends to be pregnant, especially after developing jealousy of her best friend’s pregnancy.
Schumer stars as Lainy Newton, a teacher who pretends to be pregnant. She finds the man of her dreams, Josh Lewis (Forte). They develop communication and chemistry, but she begins to feel guilty about her fake pregnancy.
Brianne Howey, who plays Megan Taylor, becomes good friends with Lainy. She’s one of the likable characters in the movie. Unlike Lainy, who is pregnant, Megan comes across as sincere and genuine. Megan and Lainy have a more potent chemistry than Lainy and Kate.
Lainy and Kate may have been best friends in the movie, but their chemistry wasn’t too believable that they’re best friends. You can sense a better kinship and harmony between Lainy and Megan.
Damon Wayans Jr. is in this movie. He’s Lainy’s ex-boyfriend, and they were together for four years. When he thought Lainy was having his baby, he freaked out until he realized it wasn’t real. His character is more of a goofy and relatively immature person.
This is one of those movies that could’ve been better had they stuck with more drama than comedy. There were many unnecessary nudity and swearing scenes. Schumer is no stranger to vulgarity and has no filter in her projects, but Kinda Pregannt should’ve been so much better.
Kinda Pregannt had the potential to be Schumer’s best film, with a strong script. Schumer co-wrote the script with Julie Paiva. It could’ve been better than Trainwreck. Kinda Pregannt should’ve gone deeper from an emotional issue standpoint.
Jillian Bell and Brianne Howey were the best performers in this cast.
