The film industry will honor Tom Cruise this fall with an Honorary Academy Award for lifetime achievement, along with the choreographer Debbie Allen and the production designer Wynn Thomas.

It’s been a long time for Cruise. A talent like Cruise should’ve had an Oscar a long time ago. One would argue that Cruise should’ve won an Oscar for his performance in Paul Thomas Anderson’s 1999 Magnolia

Cruise’s performance in Magnolia was mesmerizing. Michael Caine is one of the greatest actors of all time. As good as Caine was in The Cider House Rules, Cruise was just better. Caine went on to win Best Supporting Actor.

Cruise has been nominated for other performances. He won the Golden Globe awards three times, but never an Academy Award. Cruise will turn 63 in July, and it’s a rewarding feeling that he will have an Oscar hanging on his trophy case at home.

Debbie Allen has done a tremendous amount of work. She’s a terrific dancer, choreographer, director, producer, and actor.

Allen has been nominated numerous times for her work in Fame and won a Golden Globe. Allen was a dynamite working in film, TV, and stage, receiving two Tony Award nominations.

Allen directed and produced over 80 episodes of NBC’s comedy series A Different World

One of her underrated roles that doesn’t get mentioned often is the sitcom In the House, starring alongside LL Cool J. Allen, who was funny and charismatic, portraying the role of Jackie Warren. She appeared for 26 episodes.

Allen, sister of actress Phylicia Rashad, received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1991.

Congratulations to Cruise, Allen, and everyone else who will receive this year’s Honorary Award.
