Toronto Raptors have parted ways with president and vice president Masai Ujiri after 13 years with the organization.

Ujiri, 54, is one of the best men in the front office in the NBA today. He has made some key decisions in his executive career that turned out to be for the better. One of the toughest decisions he had to make was to trade star DeMar DeRozan for Kawhi Leonard.

This trade didn’t sit well with many people, but it turned out to be a blessing in disguise. Ujiri helped the Raptors bring a championship to Toronto in 2019 after the Raptors defeated the Golden State Warriors in six games. It’s the franchise’s first and only NBA championship.

The Raptors had a chance to bring everyone back, but Leonard decided to go home and play for the Los Angeles Clippers. After winning the title in 2019, the Raptors organization has taken a nose dive.

Fred Van Fleet went to the Houston Rockets. Pascal Siakam got traded to the Indiana Pacers. The Raptors finished with a 32-50 record last season. However, not everything should be blamed on Ujiri.

Ujiri has done fantastic work in terms of helping to grow and develop the sport of basketball in Africa. He’s provided many great opportunities and has been a great ambassador for the game. He will secure another NBA job very soon due to his impeccable resume and personality.

Ujiri will forever be a fixture in the city of Toronto. The organization felt that the team needed to make some changes, but the front office will forever be indebted to Ujiri.
