It’s been a wild season for the NFL, as the coaching-firing spree continues. The Buffalo Bills have fired head coach Sean McDermott after losing the AFC Divisional game against the Denver Broncos.
McDermott spent nine seasons as the Bills’ coach. The team was built to win a Super Bowl, but they have failed to do so. It’s the fourth time in five seasons that the Bills have lost in the divisional round game. McDermott joins the list of other coaches who got fired/stepped down this season.
Steelers: Mike Tomlin
Dolphins: Mike McDaniel
Ravens: John Harbaugh
Browns: Kevin Stefanski
Raiders: Pete Carroll
Cardinals: Jonathan Gannon
Falcons: Raheem Morris
Giants: Brian Daboll
Titans: Brian Callahan
Every name that’s mentioned will eventually find a home to coach. Well, we’re not sure about Pete Carroll yet because of his age. John Harbaugh found a new home, and that’s with the Giants. Mike Tomlin will definitely coach somewhere else. If he doesn’t return to coaching, then he will most likely get a job as a TV analyst.
Being a sports coach is hard. There’s a lot of pressure on the coach to deliver wins and championships. The business of sports is cutthroat. It’s either you have it in you, or you don’t.
As for the Bills, they haven’t reached the Super Bowl since 1993. Bills quarterback Josh Allen will enter the new season with a new head coach. The question of whether Allen can lead the Bills to a Super Bowl is getting louder and stronger after this latest defeat to the Broncos. Allen has eight postseason wins.
McDermott finishes his tenure with Buffalo with a 98-50 record. It’s going to be an interesting off-season to see where these coaches will go next and what’s going to happen with Buffalo.
