Little Giants is a classic 1994 film starring Ed O’Neill and Rick Moranis. It’s a family/sports film that any sports fan antics, especially football fanatics, will take a chance to watch.

Although the movie is not one of the greatest football movies ever, it’s a cult classic. It’s a feel-good movie with some entertaining moments.

Little Giants just turned 30. 1994 is one of the best years in cinema.

The movie is about the competitiveness between two brothers. Ever since childhood, Danny O’Shea, played by Moranis, has felt that he was to his brother, Kevin played by O’Neill). Kevin is a former college football star and always had a way to get Danny under his skin. Kevin is full of himself and comes across as one of those jocks that doesn’t like nerds.

Danny runs a gas station, while Kevin coaches the local youth football team. When Kevin’s team rejects Danny’s daughter, Becky (Shawna Waldron), because she’s a girl, Becky convinces her dad to start a rival team, though the city can support only one. To prove himself against his brother, Danny begins coaching his team of misfits for a playoff game.

Danny’s team became the Little Giants, while Kevin’s team was the Cowboys. It’s funny how the movie uses the real-life names of the NFL team rivals (Giants and Cowboys) in this movie.

Little Giants is a heartwarming movie with a unique message for all kids playing sports. Yes, some of the play-calling was weird, and certain references are outdated, but the movie deserves respect for its message and originality.

If you’re a fan of movies like “The Benchwarmers” and “The Sandlot,” where you root for the underdogs and like to see kids play sports, then you might like Little Giants.

Review: 3.6 out of 5 stars

Little Giants is one of Moranis’ last projects. He retired in 1997 to take care of his kids after losing his wife to cancer. He has blessed us with many great and memorable from the 1980s and early 90s.
