The Montreal Canadiens handed the Montreal Canadiens dealt the Buffalo Sabres their 11th straight loss with a 6-1 win at Bell Centre on Tuesday.
The Sabres have given up 45 goals and scored just 24 during the 11-game losing streak. When will the bleeding stop? It’s a heavy, gloomy cloud in Buffalo.
Can we say it is the Lindy Ruff curse? Ruff had one of the most impressive runs as the Sabres’ coach from 1997 to 2013.
Since he was fired, the organization has never recovered, and its performance has been abysmal.
It’s been a 13-year nightmare for the Sabres. They’ve had three different general managers, and they were all first-time general managers. This is not to say that you can’t succeed as a first-time general manager, but at least put some experience around those general managers to help their drafts, make clever trades, and sign free-agent players.
The Sabres need a President of operations like the one they have in Vancouver Canucks or Edmonton Oilers, or even the Vegas Golden Knights.
The Sabers are among the teams that have had so many losses in a row.
Two NHL teams have recorded a record-worst 17 losses in a row: The 1974–75 Washington Capitals and the 1992–93 San Jose Sharks.
The San Jose Sharks have lost 13 in a row three times
If the Sabres lose to the Toronto Maple Leafs on Friday, it will be their 12th consecutive loss. If they lose against the Boston Bruins on Saturday, it will be their 13th consecutive loss, which would tie the ninth-longest streak.
The Sabres must break the losing streak before it becomes even more embarrassing. The fans deserve better. The Sabres also have the New York Islanders to think about, which will be following Monday.
