UNC Tar Heels escaped with a 102-96 victory over Boston College in overtime at Dean Smith Center in Chapel Hill on Saturday.

The Tar Heels improve to 13-8 and 6-3 in ACC Conference play. UNC came into this game with nine one-possession games (5-4), which tied the most since the 2010-11 season.

R.J. Davis scored seven points in overtime. He went perfect from the free throw line in this game (7-7). Davis led the Tar Heels with 22 points.

Seth Trimble made some big plays down the stretch. He tied the game with a left-handed shot in the second half with 13 seconds left. He also made a big shot in overtime. Trimble finished with 18 points and 12 rebounds.

The Tar Heels played a Poor defensive game. Their defense played better at the end of overtime. Besides that, they didn’t close out on three-point shooters. Boston College is a lousy team, and they were having fun with the Tar Heels by draining threes.

Boston College made 14 of 24 threes in this game. Donald Hand Jr and Dion Brown combined for nine threes. Chad Venning had a big game for Boston College before fouling out. Venning gave Jalen Washington a lot of problems in the paint. Venning had 17.

Washington had a good game, tying a career-high 18 points and six rebounds before going down with a left knee injury in overtime. Tar Heels are hoping that it’s not a devastating knee injury.

Ian Jackson was the second-leading scorer with 18 points, going 8 for 12 from the field. Jackson scored just four points in the first half. Tar Heels only made six threes in the game.

The Tar Heels dodged a bullet on Saturday. This could’ve been a catastrophic loss.

The Tar Heels must play much better defense because their schedule gets tougher. They have Pittsburgh and Duke coming up, and both are road games.
