Shortstop Carlos Correa is currently trending because a shocking trade occurred on Thursday at the MLB trade deadline. Correa is coming back to Houston.
Correa waived his no-trade clause. The 30-year-old shortstop will be returning to the team as the third baseman since Jeremy Peña is at shortstop. Correa spent his first seven seasons with Houston and helped them win the World Series in 2017. He also won Rookie of the Year in 2015.
The Astros will remain in the World Series conversation, and with this addition, you can’t bet against them. The Astros are currently in first place in the AL West.
Correa has durability issues. He hasn’t performed well with the Minnesota Twins this season, which is a significant loss for them because Correa brings leadership and experience to their clubhouse.
The Twins have traded away many players. The team is looking to build around young prospects, and one of them could be the future at the shortstop position in Brooks Lee.
The Yankees got better as they bolstered their bullpen. Three relievers are coming to the Bronx. Yankees acquired David Bednar from the Pirates, Jake Bird from the Rockies, and Camilo Doval from the Giants.
Another big trade of the day was Cedric Mullins to the New York Mets. It’s a significant addition for the Mets, as they add a player who can hit, steal bases, and be a good defensive outfielder.
Cedric is 30 years old and still in the prime of his career. He played his entire career with the Orioles and helped them reach back-to-back postseason appearances. The Orioles became one of the most disappointing teams this season. Mullins has a chance to play for a good team in the Mets and is looking to help them make a deep run in the playoffs.
Who are the other winners?
– San Diego Padres
– Seattle Mariners
– Detroit Tigers
The Padres want to challenge the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League to make the World Series. The team got so much better offensively and in the bullpen.
