Academy Award-winning actor Leonardo DiCaprio revealed that there is one movie he regrets passing on. That one movie is Paul Thomas Anderson’s 1997 Boogie Nights.
Mark Wahlberg’s portrayal of Eddie Adams in Boogie Nights was absolutely outstanding, putting him on the map as an actor. DiCaprio could’ve played that role, but as great as Leo is, we can’t imagine anyone playing that character but Wahlberg. DiCaprio said it himself in an Esquire Magazine interview.
“I can’t imagine anyone but Mark in it,” DiCaprio said. “When I finally got to see that movie, I just thought it was a masterpiece.”
One of the main reasons Leo couldn’t commit to Boogie Nights was that he was already working on Titanic, another big success in 1997 that dominated the box office. Titanic worked out fine for Leo. So his decision-making turned out to be the best for everyone involved.
DiCaprio and Wahlberg got to work together on Martin Scorsese’s 2006 The Departed. One of Scorsese’s greatest films, and both DiCaprio and Wahlberg were sensational. Wahlberg earned an Oscar for a supporting role in The Departed.
