The Tampa Bay Rays returned to spoil Anthony Rizzo’s Day at Wrigley Field with a 5-4 win on Saturday.

The Rays were resilient on Saturday. They trailed 3-0 and came back to tie the game. Junior Caminero came through for the Rays when he tied the game for the second time in the eighth inning with a solo home run.

Nick Fortes hit the game-winning home run in the top of the ninth inning to give the Rays the lead.

Pete Fairbanks came in the ninth in a save situation and recorded two strikeouts. Bryan Barker earned the win for the Rays.

Drew Rasmussen was the starter for the Rays. He was pitching solidly early in the game. However, he gave up three earned runs. He also had five strikeouts through five innings of work.

Despite the Rays’ come-from-behind victory, the storyline was about Anthony Rizzo. On Wednesday, he announced that he would retire from baseball after 14 seasons.

Rizzo, a former first baseman, officially retired from the Chicago Cubs. He spent 10 seasons with the organization, becoming a three-time all-star and helping the Cubs win the World Series in 2016.

He threw the first pitch of the game. One of the incredible moments is when he sat by the bleachers with the Cubs fans and cheered alongside them. Rizzo also missed catching a home run, which was somewhat comical. In addition, he sang the “Take me out to the ballgame” song in the seventh inning.

The Rays and Cubs will meet one last time on Sunday at 2:20. Adrian Houser will pitch for the Rays against Shota Imanaga.
