Former world champion Ricky Hatton passed away on Sunday at his home in Manchester at the age of 46.
Hatton was an incredible fighter during his prime years and gave all he had in the ring. Hatton won 45 professional fights during his 15-year career. His last fight professionally was in 2012.
He finished his career with a 45-3 record (two losses came against great fighters Floyd Mayweather Jr and Manny Pacquiao).
Hatton was on fire during the mid-2000s. He won championships at the light-welterweight and welterweight divisions. In 2005, ESPN and the Boxing Association honored him by naming him Fighter of the Year.
During his career, Hatton had two cool nicknames: the Hitman and The People’s Champion. When we think of the Hitman, we think about Bret Hart. When we think of The People’s Champ, we think about Muhammad Ali and Dwayne The Rock Johnson.
Hatton was beloved by fans and respected by his peers because of his magnetic and engaging personality, especially outside the ring.
Gone too soon, but Hatton left boxing fans with many memories and accomplished so much in his short life.
