Actor and comedian Marlon Wayans is starring in a role completely different from what we are accustomed to.
Wayans will star in the new supernatural sports horror film, Him, produced by Academy Award winner Jordan Peele.
Wayans spent decades working in comedy films, but he has also taken on serious roles throughout his career.
Is Wayans an underrated actor?
He proved he can take a serious role when he did Requiem for a Dream, a psychological drama directed by Darren Aronofsky, where he played Tyrone C. Love. The movie came out in 2000.
Marlon did well in the 2009 film G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, the biopic musical drama Respect as Ted White, and Air as George Raveling.
He might be the movie that gets people to take Wayans more seriously as an actor. Wayans portrays the role of Isaiah White, a legendary quarterback for the San Antonio Saviors. The story focuses on a young, up-and-coming football player who is mentored by Wayans’ character.
Marlon can knock any role out of the ballpark when the script is well-written and has a good director. It’s great to see comedian actors break out of their roles and transition to drama. We’ve seen this from actors like Bradley Cooper, Steve Carell, and many more.
We hope that Marlon can join the list of actors who focus more on serious roles than comedy. Marlon has done comedy for so long that now, in his 50s, he can take his talent to another level.
Her will be released by Universal Pictures and will hit theaters next Friday, September 19.
