Death Warrant is a 1990 action-thriller film starring Jean Claude Van Damme. It has been 35 years since the movie was released in theaters.

The cast did an excellent job with their performance. Aside from Van Damme, Robert Guillaume, who portrayed Hawkins, was probably the second-best performer in the cast. Guillaume is an extraordinary actor who can act on stage, film, and TV. He’s very versatile.

More names who are part of the cast are Cynthia Gibb as Amanda Beckett, George Dickerson as Tom Vogler, and Art LaFleur as Sergeant DeGraf.

The story focuses on a detective, played by Van Damme, who goes undercover in a prison to find out why so many prisoners are dying there. While he’s in prison, he discovers many things that he never imagined, and he has to fight his way out of situations after his cover is blown.

It’s a very intense prison movie. It’s not one of the best Van Damme movies of his era, but it’s a cult classic, and some scenes are entertaining, especially the final 15 minutes of Act Three.

The acting and stage combat scenes carry this movie over the writing and editing.

Review: 3.6 out of 5 stars

Death Warrant is available on platforms like Tubi, a free streaming service.
