Legendary Hollywood filmmaker Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, were murdered and found dead in their Los Angeles home on Sunday, Dec. 14. The shock of the news is devastating, and it’s even more sad that their daughter discovered their bodies.
Their son Nick Reiner was arrested for being responsible for the death of his parents. According to sources, the 32-year-old got into a big argument with Rob at a Christmas party hosted by Conan O’Brien on Saturday night.
Nick is being held without bail. He has a history of drug addiction, and he has admitted this in the past. It’s unfortunate what happened to the Reiner family. No one deserves to go through this. It’s heartbreaking, especially during the holidays. Many celebrities went to social media to react to the tragic news of a beloved, versatile artist and his wife.
“Our careers and lives intersected often over the decades, from Rob writing the pilot script for Happy Days, and then as we each shifted from acting careers into directing and producing. He proved to be a superlative filmmaker, a supportive colleague, and at all times a dedicated citizen. Rob will be missed on so many levels. My heart goes out to his family and his many close friends.”
“What a huge loss. Rob Reiner was one of my favorite directors. He made some of the most formative movies for my generation. He came out from behind a huge comedic shadow cast by the great Carl Reiner, from being a TV actor to becoming a great director who made an incredible run of movies. Spinal Tap is one of the best comedies ever made – and the list goes on. He was a kind, caring person who was really, really funny. I didn’t know him well, but was always a fan, and I feel a real sadness for those who did, and his family.”
Reiner is responsible for directing many films, including Stand By Me, Misery, A Few Good Men, The American President, When Harry Met Sally, and This Is Spinal Tap. Under his direction, three actors he worked with were nominated for an Oscar. Kathy Bates won Best Supporting Actress for her role in Misery. James Woods was nominated for Supporting Actor (Ghosts of Mississippi), and Jack Nicholson was nominated for Supporting Actor (A Few Good Men).
Reiner was 78. His wife was 68. Reiner comes from a successful family in film and television, which began with Carl Reiner. God Bless the Reiner family. Rest in Peace.
