From performing on stage to making his directing debut. Rapper Residente will make directorial debut in a new film titled Porto Rico, starring Bad Bunny.
Porto Rico is a Caribbean western and historical drama about the life of Puerto Rican revolutionary José Maldonado Roman. It is set on the island in the late 19th century. Jose fought against colonialism by leading a gang of ex-convicts to vindicate Puerto Rico as a country.
Bad Bunny has been in five movies. Porto Rico will be the first movie in which he will have the lead role. The artist’s real name, Benito Antonio Martinez Ocasio, appeared in films such as Happy Gilmore 2, F9: The Fast Saga, Bullet Train, Cassandro, and Caught Stealing.
Joining Bad Bunny in the cast are the following names: Viggo Mortensen, Edward Norton, and Javier Bardem. All three actors are outstanding. Mortensen is great in films such as Calvary, Eastern Promises, and Captain Fantastic. Norton always delivers from Primal Fear to American History X, Fight Club, Birdman, and many more. Bardem is always consistent. He was phenomenal in No Country for Old Men.
Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu, who won two Oscars for Best Director for Birdman and The Revenant, will serve as the executive producer for Porto Rico.
Alexander Dinelaris, who co-wrote the movie Birdman, will reunite with Inarritu and Norton. Dinelaris co-wrote Porto Rico with Residente.
Residente has won numerous Grammy and Latin Grammy Awards throughout his career as an artist. He had the potential to knock this film out of the ballpark, given the talent he’s working with. Interestingly, Norton and Mortensen are fluent in Spanish, as both have spent years living in Argentina.
Porto Rico was spelled that way from 1900 to 1932, until Congress passed an act officially recognizing Puerto Rico.
