On Saturday, it was the NAACP Image Awards, and the night belonged to Sinners. The film led with 18 nominations and took home 13 awards.

Actor Michael B. Jordan won the best actor and entertainer of the year awards. Jordan took the platform to honor Chadwick Boseman, who was his co-star in Black Panther, who died in August 2020 after battling colon cancer for four years.

“I got to dedicate this award to Chadwick Boseman,” Jordan said after accepting the best actor award. “As my brother, our time here is short. I was watching the memorium and seeing how fast these careers go by. That’s why I want to be here and be present with you guys as much as possible.”

Jordan and actor Delroy Lindo presented an award at the BAFTA Awards recently, and they heard a racial slur from a guest in attendance. Jordan and Lindo handled the situation like professionals. As Lindo returned for the last night’s event, he received a standing ovation at the auditorium.

“I’d just like to officially say, I appreciate, we appreciate all the support and love we have been shown in the aftermath of what happened last weekend. It means a lot to us,” Lindo said.

Lindo won the Supporting Actor award for his role in Sinners. Actress and creator of Abbott Elementary, Quinta Brunson, took home two awards for Outstanding Actress in a Comedy Series and for Best Comedy Series.

Sterling K. Brown won for Outstanding Actor in a drama series (Paradise). Hulu’s Reasonable Doubt won for Outstanding Drama Series.

Actress Viola Davis received the Chairman’s Award for her many years of outstanding work in the film industry. Samuel L. Jackson honored the late Jesse Jackson, who passed away at 83.

Salt-N-Pepa and DJ Spinderella were inducted into the NAACP Image Awards’ Hall of Fame. The hip-hop group came together in the mid-1980s. Their best hit singles are “Push It,” “Expression,” and “Whattman” with En Vogue. Salt-N-Pepa is one of the best-selling rap groups of all time.
