The Clemson Tigers swept the weekend series over the rival South Carolina Gamecocks. Here is a breakdown of the games.
Game One:
Collin Priest started the Tigers’ party when he delivered a two-run double to put Clemson on the board, 2-0 in the first inning.
After trailing 4-0, the Gamecocks got on the board with a bases-loaded sacrifice fly that brought the runner home to cut it 4-1. Later, Talmadge LeCroy would hit a 2-out 2, 2-run double to cut the deficit to one 4-3.
That’s the closest the Gamecocks would get. The Gamecocks almost tied the game in the 9th inning, but the left field caught it by the wall. Tigers would hang on 5-3.
Game Two:
The Tigers got on the board at the top of the sixth inning with a double-to-left center field by Cam Camarilla. He would later run home to score the game’s second run when the defense looked confused and didn’t communicate.
Ethan Darden was sensational. He pitched seven scoreless innings, striking out 6 Gamecock batters in 89 pitches. Tigers won 5-2
Jacob Jarrell, Tristan Bissetta, and Jarred Purify all had RBIs for the Tigers.
Game 3:
Priest strikes again. He hit a three-run home run on Sunday. The Tigers scored four runs in the ninth inning.
The tigers’ pitching silenced the Gamecock’s bats all weekend long. Justin LeGuernic and Joe Allen combined for six strikeouts. The Tigers won this game 8-2.
Darden won the Bob Bradley Award, earning MVP honors for the series.
The Tigers improve to 10-1, while the Gamecocks drop to 9-3. The Tigers will face USC Upstate on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
