Power Ballad is a new upcoming musical comedy movie by John Carney, who will serve as the director, co-writer, and co-producer. The film will hit the theaters on June 5, 2026.
Paul Rudd and Nick Jones will lead the cast, portraying characters such as Rick and Danny. The story follows a wedding singer, a rock star, and the song that comes between them. Joining Rudd and Jones in the cast are Jack Reynor and Havana Rose.
Anthony Bregman, Peter Cron, Rebecca O’Flanagan, and Robert Walpole are producing the movie alongside Carney. The Irish filmmaker is a former musician. He’s worked on other musical films before this movie, including Once, Begin Again, and Sing Street. Carney loves musicals and as we can see he’s no stranger to make one.
30West, Screen Ireland, Likely Story, and Treasure Entertainment are attached to the movie. 30West has produced Late Night, Triangle of Sadness, and the television series Tiger King. Lionsgate Films is the distributor for Power Ballad.
The production began in Dublin, Ireland, in May 2024. Yaron Orbach serves as the cinematographer of the movie. As for Rudd, he continues to make great work. Rudd worked on the Hulu comedy series Only Murders in the Building, for which he earned an Emmy nomination for supporting actor.
Rudd has two other movies currently in post-production, one of which is Avengers: Doomsday, which will hit theaters in December 2026.
Besides Power Ballad, Jonas is filming an Untitled Jumanji: The Next Level sequel, which is set for release on December 11, 2026. It’s the fifth installment of the Jumanji film series.
Rudd and Jonas in a movie together is new and fresh. Let’s see how good their chemistry will be on screen.
